Description:
Chemical Name: LANSOPRAZOLE (lan-SOE-pra-zole)

Prevacid is a CAPSULE, it CANNOT be split in half.

PREVACID belongs to a group of drugs called proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). It is used to decreases the amount of acid produced in the stomach and treats ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), injury of the food pipe and conditions such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome (a condition where the stomach produces too much acid) and other conditions involving excessive stomach acid such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. PREVACID is intended for short-term treatment (for 4 weeks) for healing and symptom relief.

PREVACID is not for immediate relief of heartburn symptoms.

Directions:
Most medications can cause side effects which can be defined as an unwanted response to a medication when it is taken in normal doses. Side effects can range from mild or severe, temporary or permanent. Side effects are not experienced all patients who take this medication. Many side effects can be managed, and others may go away over time.

Stop using PREVACID and contact your doctor if you experience any of the follwing symptoms:

• dizziness, confusion
• fast or uneven heart rate
• jerking muscle movements
• feeling jittery
• muscle cramps, muscle weakness or limp feeling
• cough or choking feeling
• seizure (convulsions)

• headache
• nausea, stomach pain
• diarrhea
• constipation

Cautions:
Patients should not use PREVACID if they are allergic to lansoprazole or any other chemicals contained in this medication. Consult your health care professional to see if it is safe for you to take PREVACID if you have liver disease or low levels of magnesium in your blood.

Do not use PREVACID without the advice of a doctor if you have:

• trouble or pain with swallowing
• bloody or black stools
• vomit that looks like blood or coffee grounds
• heartburn that has lasted for over 3 months
• frequent chest pain
• heartburn with wheezing
• unexplained weight loss
• nausea or vomiting
• stomach pain
• an electrolyte imbalance or metabolic disorder

• Taking PREVACID may increase your risk of bone fracture in the hip, wrist, or spine. This effect has occurred mostly in people who have taken the medication long term or at high doses, and in those who are age 50 and older. Before you taking PREVACID, tell your doctor if you have osteoporosis or osteopenia.
• PREVACID is not expected to be harmful to an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment. It is not known whether lansoprazole passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. Do not use PREVACID without consulting your doctor.
