What is a Generic Drug?
A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.
The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.
Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.

AccuNeb is used to treat asthma in patients who are between the ages of two and 12.
AccuNeb Inhalation Solution comes as a 3 mL aqueous solution in strengths of 0.63 mg and 1.25 mg.

Directions
Patients should use AccuNeb exactly as their doctor has prescribed. Their doctor or pharmacist may answer any questions they have.
The recommended starting dose is 0.63 mg or 1.25 mg of AccuNeb three or four times a day as needed, by nebulization.
Ingredients
Albuterol sulfate is the active ingredient in AccuNeb. Sodium chloride and sulfuric acid are the inactive ingredients.
Contraindications
AccuNeb should not be administered to patients who are allergic to any of its ingredients.
Cautions
- Before starting treatment with AccuNeb nebulizer, the doctor should be informed about the patient’s:
- Prescription and nonprescription medications
- Allergies
- Past medical history and current health problems
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding status
- AccuNeb may cause worsened tightening and swelling of the airway muscles. Emergency care should be sought immediately if this occurs.
- Serious allergic reactions can occur.
Side Effects
AccuNeb may cause a fast or irregular heartbeat, chest pain, shakiness, or nervousness; however, other side effects can occur. The doctor should be notified of any bothersome or persistent side effects.
