What is a Generic Drug?

A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.

The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.

Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.

    Description

Bactroban ointment is a prescription antibiotic skin cream for preventing skin infections. It is increasingly popular for off-label use to treat bacterial infections in the nose. When used this way the technique is called Bactroban irrigation and the antibiotic cream is mixed with a saline solution and then rinsed into the nostrils to treat infection in the nose. Doctors will occasionally suggest this treatment rather than using oral antibiotics. Some people may use Bactroban nasal ointment for nosebleeds too.

You can buy Bactroban nasal ointment with a doctor’s prescription and get the best price on it when you order medication online from Canada Pharmacy.

    Directions

    For topical skin antibiotic treatment:

Apply moderate amount of ointment to affected areas of skin three (3) times per day for one (1) to two (2) weeks.

    For antibiotic nasal irrigation:

    1. Wash your hands with soap and warm water before mixing solution.
    2. Mix sinus saline solution into rinse bottle and then add two (2) teaspoons of non-iodized salt per quart of water and shake or stir. Some people choose to add one (1) level teaspoon of baking soda (pure bicarbonate) to the solution to make it less irritating.
    3. Squirt 1 inch of Bactroban ointment into the rinse bottle and tightly cap the bottle. Shake slowly to dissolve the ointment.
    4. Let the bottle sit at room temperature and then shake again until the ointment is dissolved.
    5. Squirt 50cc of the solution thoroughly into each nostril as needed.

Do this twice daily until infection clears. If infection does not clear after two (2) weeks of treatment see your doctor again.

    Ingredients

The active ingredient in Bactroban ointment is Mupirocin.
