What is a Generic Drug?

    Description

    Nexlizet (bempedoic acid and ezetimibe) is used with diet and a statin medication to treat adults with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia or atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease who need additional lowering of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C).

    Nexlizet is available in a tablet that contains 180 mg of bempedoic acid and 10 mg of ezetimibe. 

    The dose is to take one tablet by mouth once daily. It can be taken with or without food. 

    The tablet should not be crushed or chewed. It should be swallowed whole. 

    If you are taking bile acid sequestrants, take Nexlizet at least 2 hours before or 4 hours after taking bile acid sequestrants.

    Contraindications

    Do not take Nexlizet if you are allergic to ezetimibe or any of the other ingredients in Nexlizet.

    Cautions

    • Before you start treatment with Nexlizet, inform your doctor:
      • Of any medications you take. These include prescription and over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and herbal supplements. Avoid taking Nexlizet with simvastatin more than 20 mg or pravastatin more than 40 mg.
      • Of your allergies.
      • Of your medical conditions.
      • If you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant.
      • If you are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed.
    • Nexlizet can cause an increase in uric acid levels in the blood which can lead to gout.
    • Nexlizet can cause tendon rupture. Call your doctor right away if you experience pain, swelling, or inflammation of your joints. 

    Side Effects

    Nexlizet can cause side effects such as upper respiratory tract infection, the flu, bronchitis, stomach pain, back pain, joint pain, extremity pain, anemia, increased liver enzymes, diarrhea, tiredness, sinusitis, muscle spasms, and increased uric acid levels in the blood.

    Tell your doctor right away if you experience negative side effects or your side effects won't go away.
