    Description

    Nocdurna (desmopressin acetate) is available only by prescription to treat nighttime urination caused by nocturnal polyuria in adults who wake up at least two times at night to urinate.

    Nocdurna comes in 27.7 mcg and 55.3 mcg tablets that are to be placed underneath the tongue to dissolve.

    Directions

    Take Nocdurna as prescribed by your doctor. Tell your doctor or pharmacist about any questions or concerns you may have.

    Dosing in women: Place one 27.7 mcg tablet underneath the tongue once daily without water. Take one hour before bedtime.

    Dosing in men: Place one 55.3 mcg tablet underneath the tongue once daily without water. Take one hour before bedtime.

    Ingredients

    The active ingredient in Nocdurna is desmopressin acetate. Inactive ingredients include gelatin, NF (fish source), mannitol, and anhydrous citric acid.

    Contraindications

    Do not take Nocdurna if you:

    • Have low sodium levels or a history of low sodium levels
    • Have excess thirst
    • Are taking loop diuretics or systemic or inhaled glucocorticoids
    • Have kidney problems
    • Have syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion (SIADH)
    • Have an illness that can cause fluid or electrolyte disturbances
    • Have heart failure
    • Have uncontrolled high blood pressure

    Cautions

    Nocdurna has the following FDA Boxed Warnings:

    • Nocdurna can cause low sodium levels that can be severe and life-threatening
    • Nocdurna should not be used in patients who are at risk for severe low sodium levels, including patients with excessive fluid intake, illnesses that can cause fluid or electrolyte disturbances, and in those taking loop diuretics or systemic or inhaled glucocorticoids
    • Blood sodium levels should be normal before starting or resuming Nocdurna. Blood sodium should be measured within 1 week and approximately 1 month after starting therapy and periodically during treatment. Patients who are 65 years old and older and patients who are at increased risk for low sodium levels should receive more frequent monitoring.
    • Nocdurna may need to be stopped temporarily or permanently in patients who develop low sodium levels.
    • Before you start taking Nocdurna, inform your doctor of:
      • All the medications you take
      • Your allergies
      • Your current health conditions and past medical history
      • Your pregnancy or breastfeeding status
    • Patients are recommended to limit their fluid intake from 1 hour before, or until 8 hours, after taking Nocdurna.
    • Patients who are at risk of increased intracranial pressure or who have a history of urinary retention are not recommended to take Nocdurna.

    Side Effects

    Common Nocdurna side effects include dry mouth, low blood sodium levels, and dizziness. However, these are not all the side effects that can occur with Nocdurna treatment. Call your doctor right away if you have side effects that bother you or won’t go away.
