Description
Serophene (clomiphene citrate) is used to treat ovulatory dysfunction in women who want to become pregnant.
Serophene comes in 50 mg tablets for oral administration.
Directions
Take Serophene exactly as your doctor has prescribed. If you have any questions or concerns about the medication, reach out to your doctor or pharmacist.
The recommended Serophene dosage is to take one tablet by mouth once daily for 5 days. The dose may be increased in women who have no response to 50 mg. Your doctor will help you determine how much you should take and how long your treatment should last.
Ingredients
Clomiphene citrate is the active ingredient contained in each Serophene tablet.
Inactive ingredients include lactose, microcrystalline cellulose, corn starch, silicon dioxide, magnesium stearate, and sodium starch glycolate type A potato.
Contraindications
Do not take Serophene if you:
- are allergic to any of its ingredients
- are pregnant
- Have liver disease
- Have abnormal uterine bleeding
- Have ovarian cysts
- Have uncontrolled thyroid conditions, adrenal dysfunction, or an intracranial lesion
Cautions
- Before you begin therapy with Serophene, consult with your doctor about:
- All the prescription and nonprescription medications you take
- Your allergies
- Your current health conditions and past medical history
- Your pregnancy or breastfeeding status
- Vision problems such as blurry vision, spots, or flashing can occur with Serophene.
- Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome or ovarian enlargement can occur with Serophene use. Contact your doctor right away if you have stomach or pelvic pain, weight gain, discomfort, or swelling.
- Women who take Serophene have an increased chance of multiple pregnancy.
- Pregnancy wastage and birth anomalies can occur with Serophene use.
Side Effects
Side effects of Serophene include, but are not limited to, ovarian enlargement, hot flashes, stomach pain, pelvic pain, bloating, swelling, nausea, vomiting, breast discomfort, vision problems, headache, and abnormal uterine bleeding. Call your doctor right away if you have side effects that worry you or won't go away.
