Description
Your healthcare provider may prescribe a medication called Sialor. It is an uncommonly prescribed medication that can be used to treat dry mouth from various causes. It is a salivary stimulant intended to counteract xerostomia (dry mouth) resulting from the adverse effects of certain medications or other conditions.
Dry mouth is characterized by discomfort and potential pain, often manifested as difficulty in eating and swallowing. This condition may stem from various origins, including medication-induced side effects and underlying health conditions.
Sialor increases saliva production and can improve problems related to speech, swallowing, and digestion. Furthermore, it contributes to the reduction of dental decay risk, thereby bolstering overall oral health.
The precise mechanism of action remains unclear. Researchers believe Sialor increases the number of muscarinic receptors present on salivary acinar cells. Additionally, Sialor appears to augment the levels of substance P and alpha-calcitonin gene-related peptide, both of which play pivotal roles in the process of saliva production.
Directions
Take Sialor exactly as prescribed by your doctor. The usual dosage is 25 mg orally three times a day before meals.
