What is a Generic Drug?

A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.

    Directions

    Follow the instructions that come with your Xiidra prescription. If you have any questions or concerns about your prescription, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.

    The dose is to place one drop in each eye every 12 hours. 

    Xiidra comes in single-use containers. Each single-use container contains enough solution for use in both eyes. 

    Wash your hands thoroughly before using Xiidra. Do not touch the tip of the container to any surface, including your eye, in order to prevent injury and contamination. 

    If you wear contact lenses, take them out before you use Xiidra. You may put them back in after 15 minutes of using Xiidra.

    Keep the single-use containers in their foil pouch until you're ready to use them. Immediately use Xiidra after opening. Any unused solution should be disposed of after each dose.

    Ingredients

    Lifitegrast is the active ingredient contained in Xiidra. The inactive ingredients include sodium chloride, sodium phosphate dibasic anhydrous, sodium thiosulfate pentahydrate, and water for injection. Sodium hydroxide and/or hydrochloric acid are included for pH balance.

    Contraindications

    Do not use Xiidra if you are allergic to Xiidra or any of its other ingredients.

    Side Effects

    The most common side effects after using Xiidra were irritation at the instillation site, altered taste, and visual disturbances. If you develop side effects that worry you or won't go away, call your doctor right away.
