Description
Avian Insect Liquidator is a spray product developed by veterinarians to eliminate infestations with avian lice (Phthiraptera: Mallophaga), mites, flies, spiders, ants, and other external parasites. It’s used for pet birds of any species to help improve associated symptoms, including skin irritation, itchiness, powdery or flaky deposits, and scabs.
Anemia and weakened immunity, which may result from severe infestations, can also be improved with Avian Insect Liquidator. This product penetrates deeply into the bird’s plumage and kills pests under feathers and in the skin upon contact. It also helps prevent reinfestation for up to 6 weeks.

Directions
You can buy Avian Insect Liquidator in a 500 ml bottle at Canada Pharmacy. Always apply as directed. If you purchased the concentrate, use a 5% solution (e.g., 50 mL/L). Once mixed, shake well before use.
If you bought the ready-to-use spray, you may start using it immediately after shaking. In both cases, hold the spray 30–40 cm from the bird and spray directly on it.
Also, ensure to spray the aviary floor, flights, cages, perches, and nest boxes thoroughly. Don’t forget any other area where parasites may be present.
Ingredients
The active ingredients in Avian Insect Liquidator are piperonyl butoxide, permethrin, and methoprene.
Cautions
Spray with caution and steer clear of the bird’s face, including eyes, nostrils, and mouth.
Ensure good airflow so neither you nor the bird inhales too much mist.
Apply the spray lightly and evenly. Do not overuse to avoid issues, such as excess chemical absorption, cold stress, or feather clumping.
Minimize chemical exposure by removing food and water dishes before spraying, and allow surfaces, like perches and nest boxes, to dry before re-exposing birds to them.
Chemical interactions may occur, which may increase toxicity. Avoid mixing with any other insecticides or cleaning products.
Wash hands thoroughly after application and before touching your skin or eyes.
Use this product within 3 years from the date of manufacture and store below 30°C in the closed original container. Store in a dry, protected place away from light.
Contraindications
Do not use Avian Insect Liquidator on birds intended for human consumption or those producing eggs to be eaten by humans.
Additionally, it is not suitable for use on chicks without feathers, newly hatched birds, birds with known or related hypersensitivities, or those with open wounds, raw skin, or severely irritated skin.
Never use Avian Insect Liquidator on mammals, reptiles, fish, and other pets.
Do not spray in areas where you risk contaminating fish tanks, ponds, or other aquatic habitats, as some of the spray’s ingredients are toxic to fish.
Side Effects
Common, mild, and temporary side effects may include skin or feather irritation, itchiness, increased preening, and feather dryness when used repeatedly. If the bird inhaled a small amount of mist, it may start sneezing or shake its head. Flapping and agitation may also occur during or immediately after application.
More serious and uncommon to rare side effects include persistent wheezing, coughing, open-mouth breathing, skin redness and inflammation. Eye irritation or discharge if sprayed too close to the face, severe lethargy or weakness, and, very rarely, neurological signs such as tremors, disorientation, and collapse have also been observed.
Your bird may experience additional side effects of Avian Insect Liquidator, as this is not an exhaustive list. Contact your veterinarian if you notice any persistent, severe, or worrisome side effects.
