What is a Generic Drug?

A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.

The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.

Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.

    • Using a maximum of two applicators per session.
    • Let Ycanth (cantharidin) dry completely (wait up to 5 minutes).
    • Do not touch or cover treated areas with bandages or use other skin products on the area (wait for 24 hours or until the medication has been washed off).
    • Wash the treated areas with soap and water after 24 hours.

    Ingredients

The active ingredient in Ycanth is cantharidin (0.7%).

    Cautions

Attend in-office treatment sessions by your healthcare provider. Do not apply Ycanth (cantharidin) on your own.

Local skin reactions are expected and can be severe. Avoid contact with healthy skin and unintended surfaces, or wipe the medication off immediately.

Avoid contact with your eyes or mucus membranes (e.g. inside of your nose or genital areas).

If YCANTH gets into the eyes, flush with water for at least 15 minutes and seek medical attention immediately.

Avoid other topical products like creams, lotions, or sunscreen on treated areas until washed off, as they can spread Ycanth to healthy skin and increase adverse reactions.

Accidental swallowing can be life-threatening and needs immediate medical attention.

If severe blistering, pain, or other serious reactions occur, contact your healthcare provider.

Ycanth is flammable. Avoid fire, flames, or smoking near treated areas until it has been washed off.

    Contraindications

According to the FDA, there are no known contraindications for Ycanth.
