What is a Generic Drug?

A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.

The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.

Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.

    Directions

Use Ciloxan ear drops exactly as prescribed by your doctor. If you have any questions or concerns, contact your doctor or pharmacy.

Your doctor will tell you how often you should use the ear drops and for how long.

Generally, the Ciloxan ear drops dosage is to place 3-4 drops in the outer ear duct 2-4 times a day. Duration of treatment is usually 5-10 days.

    Ingredients

The antimicrobial ciprofloxacin is the active ingredient in Ciloxan. Benzalkonium chloride, disodium edetate, mannitol, acetic acid, sodium acetate trihydrate, hydrochloric acid and / or sodium hydroxide for pH balance, and purified water are the excipients contained.

    Contraindications

Patients who are allergic to Ciloxan or any of its excipients or to other quinolones should not use the medication.

      • All the medications you use, including other ear drops
      • Your allergies
      • Your current health conditions and past medical history
