What is a Generic Drug?

A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.

The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.

Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.

  • Product Details

Duovir-N is a combination medication specifically designed for the treatment of HIV infection. Lamivudine and zidovudine are classified as nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs), while nevirapine belongs to the non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI) class.

Together, these components work synergistically to inhibit the replication of the HIV virus, reducing its viral load and helping to manage the progression of the disease. Duovir-N is typically part of a complex treatment regimen to inhibit the progression of HIV to Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS).

The usual directions are to take one tablet by mouth twice daily.

Duovir-N is typically administered orally, either with or without food.

The tablets should be swallowed whole with water and not crushed, chewed, or broken.

Do not stop taking this drug or take it differently than directed by your healthcare professional.

Duovir-N contains the three active ingredients: lamivudine 150 mg, zidovudine 300 mg, and nevirapine 200 mg.

    Common drug-drug interactions may include:

    • Acetaminophen
    • Atazanavir

Before starting this drug, tell your doctor about any pre-existing medical conditions. Certain medical conditions and medications may interact with Duovir-N, potentially affecting its effectiveness or causing adverse reactions.

Your prescriber should regularly monitor your HIV viral load, CD4 count, and overall health during the treatment course.

Do not stop the medication or change the dosage because this may lead to the virus becoming resistant, which could require a completely new medication regimen.
