Description
Malaseb shampoo is a topical antibacterial and antifungal shampoo for dogs and cats. In dogs, this prescription medication is used to treat seborrheic dermatitis when linked to Staphylococcus pseudintermedius and/or Malassezia pachydermatis infections. In cats, it’s used alongside antifungal medications to address and control dermatophytosis (ringworm) infections caused by Microsporum canis. Malaseb shampoo for dogs and cats works by killing yeast, fungi, and bacteria. It also helps calm irritated skin and supports healing by cleaning and removing excess oils and debris. Treatment with Malaseb shampoo also helps prevent recurring skin infections.
Directions
You can buy Malaseb shampoo for dogs and cats in 250 ml and 500 ml bottles. Only use it as directed by your veterinarian. The dosage depends on whether you’re treating a dog or a cat.
Dogs:
Dogs should be treated with 1.5 mL per kg of body weight. For example, this means that approximately 50 mL of Malaseb dog shampoo is needed for a 35 kg dog with medium-length hair. The treatment should be repeated twice weekly for 3 weeks, then weekly for up to 10 weeks. Symptoms should improve noticeably after 2 to 3 weeks of treatment. If this isn’t the case, your veterinarian may need to reevaluate the diagnosis.
Cats:
Treat an adult cat with approximately 10 mL of Malaseb shampoo twice weekly for at least 3 weeks until the fungal infection has cleared.
If symptoms do not improve within 3 weeks or if skin irritation develops, discontinue treatment and consult a veterinarian. If necessary, Malaseb may be used for up to 9 consecutive weeks. Other cats that were in contact with the animal should also be treated with this shampoo. This limits the spread of infection and environmental contamination.
Malaseb dog and cat shampoo should be used as follows:
- Wet your pet's fur with clean water.
- Apply the shampoo on several areas of their coat.
- Massage Malaseb into the coat using a sponge and rubber gloves.
- Most importantly, apply around the nose, on the muzzle and chin, under the tail, and between the toes.
- Leave the shampoo on the animal for 10 minutes.
- Rinse off thoroughly with clean water.
- Wash your hands after use.
