What is a Generic Drug?
A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.
The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.
Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.

Description
Neutrogena T/Gel Therapeutic Shampoo Original Formula is used to manage the symptoms of dandruff, seborrheic dermatitis, and psoriasis.
The shampoo comes in a 473 mL bottle that is packaged in a carton.
Directions
Use Neutrogena T/Gel Therapeutic Shampoo as directed on the package label.
Use at least two times a week or as instructed by your doctor. Make sure your hair is thoroughly wet, then massage the shampoo into your scalp. Lather and leave the shampoo on your hair and scalp for a few minutes, then rinse and repeat.
Do not get the shampoo in your eyes.
Keep the shampoo stored out of light, heat, and freezing temperatures; keep out of children’s reach.

Ingredients
Neutrogena T/Gel Therapeutic Shampoo Original Formula Ingredients:
- The active ingredient in Neutrogena T/Gel Therapeutic Shampoo Original Formula is coal tar 0.5%.
- Inactive ingredients include water, sodium laureth sulfate, cocamide MEA, laureth-4, fragrance, sodium dehydroacetate, caprylyl glycol, sodium chloride, polysorbate 20, citric acid, cocamidopropyl betaine, tetrasodium, tetrasodium EDTA, and sodium hydroxide.
Contraindications
Patients should not use Neutrogena T/Gel Therapeutic Shampoo Original Formula for prolonged periods of time without speaking with a doctor. Patients should also not use it with other forms of psoriasis treatment, including ultraviolet radiation or prescription medications unless instructed by a doctor.
Cautions
- Before you start using Neutrogena T/Gel Therapeutic Shampoo Original Formula, talk to your doctor about:
- All the prescription and over-the-counter medications you use, including other topical products
- Your allergies
- Your current health problems and past medical history
- Your pregnancy or breastfeeding status
- Neutrogena T/Gel Therapeutic Shampoo Original Formula may discolor gray, blonde, bleached, or tinted hair temporarily
Side Effects
Caution should be used with sun exposure, as Neutrogena T/Gel Therapeutic Shampoo Original Formula may increase your chance of sunburn for up to 24 hours after using.
Immediately contact your doctor if you have side effects that bother you or won’t go away.
