A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.

    Description

    Scemblix (asciminib) is a prescription medication used to treat Philadelphia chromosome-positive chronic myeloid leukemia (Ph+ CML) in chronic phase (CP) and Ph+ CML in CP with T315I mutation in adults.

    Scemblix is available in 20 mg and 40 mg oral tablets.

    Directions

    Take Scemblix exactly as prescribed by your doctor. If you have any questions or concerns about the medication, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.

    Recommending dosing:

    • Ph+ CML in CP: Take 80 mg by mouth one time a day or 40 mg by mouth two times a day.
    • Ph+ CML in CP with the T315I mutation: Take 200 mg by mouth two times a day.

    The tablets should be swallowed whole; avoid breaking, chewing, or crushing them.

    Wait at least 2 hours before or 1 hour after taking Scemblix before you consume food.

    Ingredients

    Asciminib is the active ingredient in Scemblix. Colloidal silicon dioxide, croscarmellose sodium, ferric oxide, hydroxypropyl cellulose, lactose monohydrate, lecithin, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, polyvinyl alcohol, talc, titanium dioxide, and xanthan gum. Ferric oxide, yellow and ferric oxide, red are also inactive ingredients in the 20 mg tablets. Ferrosoferric oxide and ferric oxide, red are also inactive ingredients in the 40 mg tablets.

    Contraindications

    According to the most recent Prescribing Information, there are no contraindications, or reasons why a person cannot take Scemblix.

    Cautions

    • Before you begin taking Scemblix, tell your doctor about:
      • All the prescription and nonprescription medications you take
      • Your allergies
      • Your current health conditions and past medical history
      • Your pregnancy or breastfeeding status
    • Scemblix can cause the following:
      • Abnormal blood cell counts
      • Pancreatic toxicity/pancreatitis
      • High blood pressure
      • Allergic reactions
      • Cardiovascular problems
      • Harm to an unborn baby
    • Seek medical care right away if you experience any of the above.
    • Effective contraception is recommended during treatment with Scemblix.

    Side Effects

    Upper respiratory tract infections, musculoskeletal pain, headache, fatigue, nausea, rash, and diarrhea are common Scemblix side effects. However, other side effects may also occur. Call your doctor right away if you have side effects that bother you or won’t go away.
