SYNVISC (Hylan G-F 20) is a medication prescribed to treat osteoarthritis pain in patients who have tried and been unsuccessful with other options like topical treatments and over-the-counter analgesics.
Osteoarthritis manifests as pain in joints, including knees, hips, facet joints, fingers, and shoulders. SYNVISC injection can be used to relieve pain from osteoarthritis of the knee.
Directions
SYNVISC injection is administered by a medical professional in a clinic or hospital setting. The medication is administered using an aseptic technique directly into the knee joint via intra articular injection.
Your healthcare professional will administer SYNVISC once weekly for three injections.
Ingredients
SYNVISC contains polymers of Hylan A and Hylan B, which are derivatives of hyaluronan. SYNVISC contains cross-linked chains of hyaluronan, which contains polymers of sodium-glucuronate-N-acetylglucosamine. Hyaluronan is found naturally in joints and is distributed in the connective, epithelial, and neural tissues of the body.
SYNVISC should be stored at room temperature and protected from light in the original packaging.
Cautions
SYNVISC should only be used for osteoarthritis of the knee and should not be injected in other joints.
SYNVISC is made using chicken combs. Use SYNVISC with caution if you are allergic to avian proteins, feathers, or egg products.
Do not use SYNVISC if you have a known hypersensitivity to hyaluronan preparations.
