Description
Velcade is a prescription medication primarily used to treat multiple myeloma, a type of cancer that affects plasma cells in the bone marrow. It is also indicated for treating mantle cell lymphoma, a rare type of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.
Velcade contains the active ingredient bortezomib, which belongs to a class of drugs called proteasome inhibitors. It works by blocking the action of proteasomes, which are cellular structures that break down proteins. By inhibiting proteasomes, Velcade interferes with the survival of cancer cells, leading to their death.
