What Is Myrbetriq?

What Is Myrbetriq?

Waste elimination is one of those bodily functions that has to happen, but the difference from others is that it has a certain unpleasantness to it. One that makes it necessary to have those 2 functions be conducted in privacy. For most people that’s not an issue, as finding and using a public washroom isn’t difficult even if they’re not at home. The opposite reality for people with OAB is that they often have next to no time to do that. Urinary urgency is awful and urinary incontinence is even worse, unless you’re a fish. This leads to what is Myrbetriq.

You may have seen the commercials on TV for this OAB treatment medication and remember the super cute but super disruptive bladder character that does a 180 in his ways once the woman starts on Myrbetriq. Many people who’ve never really thought twice about urination will be surprised to learn that urinary urgency is caused by muscle activity. Bladder muscles expand and flex as needed for storage / expelling but with overactive bladder disorder the muscles are flexing to expel too early and far too powerfully than they should be.

Continuing with what is Myrbetriq let’s remember though that urination is a function of both sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system. We won’t go down the super scientific alley but what that means is that it’s something that will for most part be done for you, and there is nervous system activity making it all possible. With overactive bladder disorder there are miscommunications in that nervous system activity that make the bladder muscles contract when the bladder is not full yet.

That’s the long and short of what is Myrbetriq used for, but we can look at how it can decrease the urge to pee suddenly in more detail because it’s not just about prevented bladder muscle contractions.

Muscle Overrule

The bladder muscle we’re talking about here is the detrusor muscle, and it is the one that is the troublemaker with OAB disorder. Mirabegron is the active ingredient in Myrbetriq medication, and what it essentially does is overrule the nerve signals telling the detrusor muscle to contract or remain constricted when the bladder isn’t full.

The second part of that is related to what is Myrbetriq too, and that’s because when the muscle never fully relaxes it takes away space in the bladder. Meaning less urine storage room is adding to the problem. This OAB medication works very well, and if you need it then you should be starting on it right away if you haven’t talked to a doctor yet. The last thing we’ll say around what is Myrbetriq is that some women are concerned about Myrbetriq causing weight gain.

It is one of the possible side effects, but once you start on the medication you will be reducing your incontinence or leakage considerably if not entirely. That means you can throw yourself into jumping jacks with maximum exertion and do lunges like a monitor lizard! Upping your exercise levels may be a way to counter any weight gain you experience because of the medication
