What is a Generic Drug?

A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.

    Yaz Plus (drospirenone/ethinyl estradiol/levomefolate) is a medication often prescribed to prevent pregnancy.     Yaz Plus comes in a package containing 28 film-coated tablets - 24 active pink tablets each containing 3 mg of drospirenone, 0.02 mg of ethinyl estradiol, and 0.451 mg of levomefolate, and 4 inert light-orange tablets with 0.451 mg of levomefolate.

    The recommended dose is one tablet taken orally at the same time each day. The tablets should be swallowed whole with or without food. Yaz Plus pill's effectiveness is greatly improved when taken consistently and correctly.

    Contraindications

    Discuss your medical history with your doctor. Do not take Yaz Plus if you are allergic to drospirenone, ethinyl estradiol, levomefolate, or any of the other ingredients in Yaz Plus.

    Cautions

    • Before you start taking Yaz Plus, inform your doctor: 
      • About any medications you are currently taking, especially those that may affect the effectiveness of Yaz Plus like certain HIV medications, certain seizure medications, or the herb St John's Wort. 
      • About any medical conditions you have, including high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, or obesity. 
      • If you smoke and are over 35 years old. 
      • If you have a history of blood clots or strokes.
      • If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. Yaz Plus can cause harm to your unborn baby. 
      • If you are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed. Yaz Plus may reduce the quantity and alter the composition of breast milk. 
    • Be aware that Yaz Plus doesn't protect against sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV/AIDS. 
    • Yaz Plus can cause hyperkalemia, a condition characterized by high potassium levels. Check with your doctor if you are on other medications that can increase potassium levels. 
    • Yaz Plus can cause blood clots, which can lead to serious conditions like deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, stroke, or heart attack. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience sudden blindness, chest pain, difficulty breathing, unusual headache, or weakness or numbness in your arms or legs.

    Side Effects

    The most common Yaz Plus side effects include nausea, vomiting, headache, bloating, breast tenderness, weight changes, and changes in menstrual periods. If you experience any severe or persistent side effects, reach out to your doctor immediately.
